Kyle said Ya I know!

In the mornings, if hubby is in Singapore, he will help me to bring KD down to the car and buckle him onto his car seat so i won’t have to carry the heavy KD.

After that, hubby will walk to the train station to go to work while i send KD to his school.

Today, KD was very awake instead of the usual sleepy boy, he waved bye bye and gave flying kisses to his Daddy while we departed.

Me : Do you know where Daddy is going?

KD : Ya!

Me: Where is Daddy going?

KD: Daddy go to eat noodles!

What’s in a name? Bizarre names i came across

Linking up with MadPsychMum, I am going to share about some interesting names i came across when i was working part time as a IT technical troubleshooter with SingaporeOne during my schooling days (GOSH! that’s so many years ago!!) as well as interesting names i read on the newspapers before:

Name #1 and #2:

I was stationed in the Computer Training Centre @ the Toa Payoh Library, (where many computers were set up with the aim of teaching the nation on how to use the computer for internet under the SingaporeOne nationwide mass adoption programme). We were calling one of the senior citizen students to clarify the name to print on his Certificate of Completion of the course.

Colleague picked up the phone and dialed.. while waiting she commented “Oh my, i really dunno how i should pronounce the name.. Is it really like Poh Piah as in 薄饼?”

“Hello! We are calling from xxxxxx, Can i speak with Mr Wu Poh Piah please?”

“Oh! He is not in? Can i check who you are? We are going to print out his certificate and would like to clarify his name..”

“You are Wu Bong Piah?! You are his brother?! Huh!! Are you pulling my leg??!”

“So your brother’s name is really Wu Poh Piah??!”

Wu Poh Piah (in hokkien it means Have Spring Roll) and Wu Bong Piah (in hokkien it means Have Bong Piah which is a type of chinese pastry)

Name #3:

Primary school children were also sent to the computer centre set up in the Toa Payoh Library to learn how to use the internet for research. We were suppose to print out their Certificates of Completion immediately after the course and the names that we used for printing are the names the children key in when they log on the systems. Children being children and kids being kids, so for theses classes, we have to do a diligent thorough check through the name lists generated before we print the certificates as many times there are “Superman”, “Spiderman”, “Sponge Bob” and sometimes vulgarities like “CCB” or “LJ” appearing in the class…

There was one day i was looking through the list and i turned very angry thinking how come a 7 year old boy who should be so innocent keyed in something like this!

I stomped into the class angrily, walked to his terminal where he is seating and asked the little boy whom were giggling with his friends, “You think it’s very funny!? Why didn’t you key in your name properly when the instructor told you to!?”

His angelic face and innocent stare back at me made me a little puzzled while I was still very angry… so i turned to his classmates seating beside him and asked “What is the name of your friend here?”

They replied simultaneously “Dick”

(Me thinking to myself…. OMG… so Dick is correct….)

“And what’s his surname?”

They replied simultaneously with innocence again “Long”

(Me: Holy shit!!!!!! The child’s name is really Dick Long!!!!!)

I quickly apologized to the poor boy and ask them to continue with their lessons and rushed out of the classroom immediately….

Seriously, the boy was only 7 years old then.. i really pity him when he grows up and especially when he is in the army…

Name #4:

I read this on the chinese newspaper.. apparently there are some very nice chinese names but when you input the Han Yu Pin Yin name in English on the Identification cards, it sounds very weird when other pronounced the Han Yu Pin Yin Name…

Apparently, there was a lady in Singapore whom her parents gave her a very beautiful name – 游灿蝶 which means very beautiful butterflies… but printed on her NRIC below her Chinese Name in Han Yu Pin Yin was You Can Die. -_-“””””

If I am a nurse and had to help the doctor call for the patients’ names I will be super stress to read out this name… Probably I will call out her NRIC number instead. ;p

Thus i think giving the child a beautiful name is not enough.. you also have to check it’s spelling in dialect and Han Yu Pin Yin!!

Lastly, i also read this on the newpaper: Unique and very rare & bizzare surnames in Singapore: 老 and 死. Can you imagine greeting them 老小姐 or 死先生?? I can’t seem to find both on the online Yellow Pages under residential category now.. Used to flip the book and really saw that very few people with the surnames!!

Herpetophobia

I have Herpetophobia in a confined space.

Herpetophobia: It is an extreme and morbid fear of reptiles or creepy, crawly things, like, snakes, lizards, alligators, etc.

The confined space is in my car.

Since yesterday, I got scared like at least 5 times whenever i opened the car door and found a big brown lizard either resting on the edge of mine or KD’s door within close proximity to my face, on my seat belt or at my seat belt buckle!!

You must understand that i am quite heavily pregnant now and already my heart is working very hard to circulate blood between me and my baby. With the multiple scares within few hours (brought Kd to school, bought groceries, fetched him, brought him for his 3yo development assessment), i can say my heart is super overworked! Already it was beating faster than normal person but my heart was beating extremely fast! BLAME the pregnancy hormones that will make me a lil irrational under intense stress caused by the lizard!

When i first chanced upon it i only got a shock, but i did try to make it fall out my car onto the floor but alas it’s too quick witted for me! As it gets daring and rest on places exactly at the driver seat, i realized i couldn’t concentrate on driving anymore. ~T_T~ I am having phobia at the thought of it suddenly crawling up onto me and I will surely freaked out and lose control of my wheels!

This morning when i bring KD to school, I opened the car doors gingerly, look under two car seats and don’t see it anywhere. So, I thought it had decided to leave me for good! Phew!

Kiasu me went to buy the lizard traps just to play safe. While placing the lizard trap, suddenly it appeared just right in front of my face again! Geez! I won’t be able to live past another day like this!

Quickly called my in laws helper down and together we managed to chased it out of the car after many minutes.  Finally i can phew and relax! And thus here to share my very exciting and thrilling day of my life!

P/s: I will definitely look back and laugh at myself! I can’t believe i actually became so obsessed and affected because i am a mom!!! Luckily KD is still a little young to know i am afraid! I still wanna maintain my “I am his super mommy” impression!

My oh my! Is this my son?

Last week, i peeked into Kyle’s class and found him super disinterested and busy playing with  his toes when the Chinese teacher was reading a book animatedly to the attentive children. I described it to hubby and ask him aiyo why our son behaves like that?

Today, I peeked into the class again and almost fainted. Quickly took some pictures and a video to send to Hubby’s phone to which he replied:

” I think next time u need to go to his primary school often”

When I picked him up, I asked the teachers if Kyle participates in the classroom activities and if he is able to pay attention in class? To which, the teacher replied me that he had improved a lot recently…  -_-/// I immediately stopped asking further questions!

Experienced mommies, maybe you can share with me if Kyle is having attention deficiency? When he was at home with me, I also had to plan and do many activities with him quickly in a short time frame Else he will be bored and moves away.. just how can I get him to be interested in classroom activities?
